It has been disclosed that soldiers allegedly prevented a delegation by the Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, from accessing the abductees rescued from captivity at Oriire Local Government Area at the Military Hospital, Ibadan.
The delegation was at the 2nd Division Medical Centre, Ibadan, early in the morning to see the victims, including the school pupils and their teachers, but was denied entry into the hospital facility.
On the delegation list
On the delegation were the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade; Commissioner for Health; Dr Oluwaserimi Adewumi Ajetunmobi; Special Adviser on Security Coordination, Major Gen. Tokunbo Omoniyi (rtd); Professor Temitope Alonge; and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
It was gathered that some soldiers on duty allegedly barred the state government officials from gaining access to the victims citing orders from above.
The action of the soldiers was despite the visit being in line with the state government’s earlier assurance that the rescued persons would receive proper medical attention and rehabilitation.
Recall that the victims were released on Friday after spending 56 days in captivity in the hands of their abductors.
Both the state and federal governments had confirmed the abduction and pledged support for their treatment and recovery.
