President Bola Tinubu has admitted that his administration has, in the last three years, taken some tough and difficult decisions causing pains to Nigerians in the course of governing the country.

He however, added that the difficult decisions were necessary, given the myriad of problems, including serious economic and social headwinds, unsustainable fiscal situation and insecurity facing the country when he became the president in 2023.

The president made the admittance, on Friday, while rendering the stewardship of his three-year-old administration.

President Bola Tinubu, however, urged Nigerians not to lose hope or give up, assuring that the various reforms his administration embarked upon will yield positive results and ease their pains.

President Bola Tinubu on the difficult decisions and better tomorrow

Below is the full statement by the president on the 3rd anniversary of his administration, 29 May, 2026…

My fellow compatriots,

Three years ago, you entrusted me with the sacred responsibility of leading our beloved nation at a defining moment in our history.

I accepted that responsibility, fully aware of the magnitude of the challenges before us, but also deeply confident in the resilience and potential of the Nigerian people.

Today, on the occasion of the third anniversary of our administration, I address you with gratitude, humility, and renewed determination.

When we assumed office in 2023, our nation faced serious economic and social headwinds. The fiscal situation was unsustainable, insecurity threatened livelihoods in many parts of the country, and confidence in public institutions had weakened.

We knew that difficult but necessary decisions had to be made to rescue our economy and reposition Nigeria for long-term prosperity.

Our administration took bold steps to stabilise the economy and lay the foundation for sustainable growth.

The removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange system were painful, but essential reforms aimed at preventing national economic collapse and restoring investor confidence.

These decisions were not made lightly, but they were made in the best interest of our country and future generations.

I understand the hardship many Nigerians have endured as a result of these reforms. I hear your concerns, and I remain fully committed to reducing the burden on our people while building a stronger and more resilient economy.

Despite the initial challenges, there are clear signs that our reforms are yielding results.

Inflation is gradually easing, states now have increased revenues to fund development, and investor confidence is steadily returning.

We have strengthened our oil and gas sector, expanded local refining capacity, and promoted policies that support small businesses, manufacturers, and digital innovation.

In agriculture, our administration continues to support farmers with improved access to financing, mechanisation, and security. We are determined to achieve food security and reduce dependence on imports.

Across the country, infrastructure projects in roads, rail, power, housing, and healthcare are being accelerated to stimulate economic growth and improve quality of life.

On security, our armed forces and security agencies have continued to make sacrifices in defense of our nation.

We have recorded progress in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and oil theft, although much work remains to be done.

I salute the courage and patriotism of our security personnel who daily risk their lives to keep Nigeria safe.

To Nigerian workers, youths, women, entrepreneurs, and the private sector, I say thank you for your resilience and patriotism. Your sacrifices and contributions are helping to shape a better future for our country.

Our administration remains committed to strengthening democracy, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that every Nigerian has a fair opportunity to succeed, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or region.

We are also investing heavily in education, healthcare, technology, and skills development because we believe that the true wealth of any nation lies in its people.

The Nigerian youth remain at the centre of our Renewed Hope Agenda.

As we enter the final year of this administration’s first term, I assure you that we will remain focused on delivering tangible results.

We will continue to pursue policies that create jobs, reduce poverty, improve infrastructure, and restore national pride.

Nigeria is a nation blessed with enormous human and natural resources. Our greatest strength lies in our unity, resilience, and shared belief in a brighter future.

Together, we will overcome every challenge and build a nation that future generations will be proud to inherit.

I thank all Nigerians for your patience, prayers, and unwavering support.

May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
