Human blood has lost its sanctity in Nigeria, Archbishop of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province and the Bishop of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese, His Grace, the Most Rev. Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe, has declared.
The cleric stated that, rather than respecting human life, politicians across the country were more concerned about winning the 2027 general election and dancing at political campaign rallies.
As contained in press release from the Office Of The Bishop Of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese, the cleric stated this during the Pentecostal Service at the Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.
Loss Of Sanctity Of Human Blood
He attributed the loss of respect for human life to the accessibility of terrorists and bandits to sophisticated firearms and the lackadaisical attitude of the ruling class to the welfare of the people.
“The level at which terrorism, banditry and kidnapping in the country today is pushing the Church and our youths to edge. We don’t have words of calm for our youths again and this portends danger for our country.
“We are grieved and pained about the brutal killings, kidnapping and terrorism by bandits and Fulani herdsmen going on in the country unchecked due to infiltration and compromise by our political leaders.
“These have discouraged investors from investing in our country and our brilliant and best brains to leave the country to seek for greener pastures in the other nations of the world where there is peaceful co-existence and human lives have value,” he stressed.
The cleric noted that the killings of Nigerian soldiers, policemen and other security operatives, including local hunters and vigilantes were because of the obsolete fire arms they have, compared to the sophisticated modern guns in the hands of the terrorists.
Aladekugbe added that it is high time political leaders woke from their slumber to save the country from total collapse and restore respect for human life.
He prayed to the Almighty God to redirect the minds of the politicians ruling the country, in order for them to remain focused on the security of lives and property of the people.
