The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has commiserated with Dr Malachy Agbo, the Enugu State Commissioner for Information and Communication, on the demise of his mother, Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo (née Ortuanya).

GOCOP commiserated with the bereaved Agbo family in a statement by its President, Danlami Nmodu, mni and General Secretary, Sufuyan Ojeifo.

The Agbo Family had announced, in a release by the commissioner, on Sunday, the passing of their beloved matriarch, Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo (née Ortuanya).

Dr. Agbo disclosed that his mother passed on at Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu, after a brief illness on Friday, 8 May, 2026.

He described the late Mrs. Agbo as a devoted Catholic, compassionate mother, and a pillar of strength to her family and the wider community.

“Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo was widely admired for her humility, generosity, unpretentiousness, and unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.

“Throughout her lifetime, she positively impacted many lives through her philanthropic activities and community-centred initiatives, particularly in Ohodo Community and her Amufi Village, where she remained a respected figure and source of inspiration.

“Family members, friends, associates, and community leaders have continued to pay glowing tributes to the deceased, remembering her deep faith in God, peaceful disposition, unrelenting spirit and dedication to the welfare of others.

“They noted that her passing has created a profound vacuum, not only within the Agbo Family but also among those who benefited from her kindness, guidance, and motherly counsel,” it was stated in the release.

The commissioner expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those who have shown support, prayers, and solidarity with the family during this difficult time. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.

The family further announced that funeral and burial arrangements for the late Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo (née Ortuanya) will be communicated in due course.

The GOCOP leadership stated in its condolence message that the Guild received with profound sadness the news of the passing of Mrs  Agbo.

GOCOP also urged the bereaved family to accept the heartfelt condolences of its members.

“We join you, your family, and the people of Ohodo Community and Amufi Village in mourning the loss of a matriarch whose life was defined by humility, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.

“From your statement, it is clear that your mother was more than a parent—she was a devoted Catholic, a compassionate mother, and a pillar of strength whose philanthropic activities and community-centered initiatives touched countless lives.

“The glowing tributes from family, friends, associates, and community leaders speak to a legacy of deep faith, peaceful disposition, and selfless dedication to the welfare of others

“We know that her passing leaves a profound vacuum, but we take solace in the enduring impact of her kindness, guidance, and motherly counsel. May that legacy provide comfort to you and your family in this difficult time,” the Guild added in the release.

It prayed that the Almighty God grants Mrs Agbo eternal rest and give the family, and all who mourn the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

This was as the GOCOP leadership assured the commissioner of the prayers and solidarity of the members, as the family makes arrangements for her funeral and burial.
