Victor Oluwadamilare, was chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State, while Alhaji Kola Animasaun was a two-term chairman of the League of Veteran Journalists, Oyo State.
While Oluwadamilare is a former employee and journalist with the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc (publishers of the Tribune titles), Animasaun is a former employee and broadcaster with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ibadan National Station.
The election, which has generated a lot of interest from many quarters, will be a clash between two media titans as campaign hots up.
Members of the League have the option of choosing between a dogged unionist and one time Special Assistant (Media), to a former Minister of Communications and a former broadcaster/two-term former chairman of the League in Oyo State.
According to the Electoral Committee, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the election will be held on Thursday May 28, 2026, at the League House, NUJ Press Centre, Ibadan.
Oluwadamilare Kicks Off Campaign
Meanwhile, Mr Victor Oluwadamilare has launched his campaign for the chairmanship position of the League of Veteran Journalists, Oyo State chapter.
The contestant, while flagging off his campaign on Wednesday, promised to provide a comprehensive support package for members, if elected.
The campaign, code-named MISSION 2026, according to the former media aide of the ex-Minister of Communications, represented resilience and readiness to serve better.
“What we are bringing to the table are refreshing sustainable development, improved welfare and inclusive administration,” he said.
“The League, which is populated by senior citizens, deserves a new leadership with clarity and purpose,” he added.
Oluwadamilare, a dogged unionist, disclosed that “The League, as a bastion of experienced retired senior journalists and media managers, boasts of immense potential but needs a contemporary leadership focused on improving members’ welfare.”
He further said adopting MISSION 2026 was about “choosing dynamism, competence, proven leadership and a future that works for all. Adopting a moral distancing at a time like this leaves a vacuum, a precarious vacuum for that matter.
“We shall embark on an enhanced welfare package, which includes annual basic medical check-up, health insurance scheme, regular health talks, and provision of a drug bank, among others,” Oluwadamilare added.
