PDP Reps Deny Meeting Over Party Crisis
Members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have denied ever meeting over the leadership crisis rocking the party.
The PDP federal lawmakers in the lower chamber of the National Assembly made the clarification in response to some media reports that they met online to intervene in the party crisis.
Minority Leader and Leader of PDP, House of Representatives, Honourable Ndudi Elumelu, made the clarification in a statement, noting that the PDP federal lawmakers have not met over the leadership challenges in the party.
He also said, while the lawmakers are working in concert with the party organs to ensure an amicable resolution of the crisis, such a meeting held, it was without the knowledge of the Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives.
“The attention of the Minority Caucus, particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, have been drawn to news reports purporting to be the intervention and outcome of an online meeting of the PDP Caucus in the House regarding the current leadership challenge within the party.
“If such a meeting held, it was without the knowledge of the leadership of the Minority Caucus, and therefore in breach of established procedure.
“Meanwhile, we are working in concert with organs of the party to ensure sustainable resolution of the current challenges that will be in the overall interest of the party and Nigerians,” the statement read.
The Minority Leader and PDP Leader in the House of Representatives also appealed to party faithful to exercise caution, assuring that the leadership crisis would be resolved.
“We appeal to all party faithful, particularly PDP members in the House of Representatives, to exercise caution and patience as the party addresses the present leadership challenges,” Elumelu stated in statement.
