A group within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Igba Otun, has called on the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu and Senator Teslim Folarin, to step aside from the 2027 governorship election race in the state.
The group further advised Adelabu and Folarin, who was the APC candidate in the 2023 governorship election, to, instead, become kingmakers in the party.
Igba Otun stated in a release, on Monday, by its spokesperson, Akin Ademola, emphasised that APC should seek for new leadership, preparatory to the 2027 elections I’m the state.
The group stated: “Both Teslim Folarin and Bayo Adelabu will continue to polarise the party, if either of them was on the ballot. Their past experiences have not united us. Rather, they have deepened divisions within our ranks.”
The group believed that it is crucial for the APC to “do away with the duo going into 2027” and instead allow a fresh, neutral and popular aspirant to emerge as the party’s flag-bearer.
Igba Otun, however, tipped Honourable Aderemi Oseni, the current House of Representatives member, Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, as the ideal candidate for the party in the upcoming governorship election in Oyo State.
The group praised Oseni for what it described as his “sterling leadership qualities” in Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency.
It stated: “Engineer Aderemi Oseni has demonstrated remarkable commitment to his constituents, and his track record speaks for itself. He embodies the change we need to rejuvenate our party’s image and appeal.
“Oseni’s ability to connect with the grassroots and his innovative approach to governance make him the perfect choice for the APC as we strategise for the future.”
Igba Otun also expressed confidence that, Oyo APC, under Oseni as its governorship candidate in the 2027 elections, can regain its lost ground and foster unity within the party.
