The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has disowned a fake AI-generated video circulating in the social media promoting a fake financial scheme.
The national oil company made its position known on the said fake financial scheme in a disclaimer by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye.
NNPCL stated that the AI-generated video featured a cloned voice of its Group CEO, Mr. Bayo Bashir Ojulari, promoting the fictitious poverty alleviation scheme.
The company clarified that it has no such investment initiative and urged the public to disregard the video, originally shared on Facebook by an account named Mensageiro de Cristo.
“NNPC Ltd has warned the perpetrators to cease their fraudulent actions or face legal consequences,” Soneye stated in the disclaimer.
