Women leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyo State chapter, have declared their support for the governorship ambition of Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party women leaders however called for a commitment of the chairman of Ilaji Hotels and Sports to 40 per cent female inclusion in his administration, if he eventually emerged victorious.
Oyo PDP women leaders from the 11 local government areas of Ibadanland, the four local councils and the three local government areas from Ibarapa Zone made the declaration on Sunday.
The PDP women leaders from the aforementioned 18 local government areas gave their support during a solidarity visit to Chief Sanusi, the Jagunmolu Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The PDP local government women leaders were unanimous in their endorsement of the JDS Gubernatorial Movement for 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Onikede Mariam, the Egbeda Local Government Women Leader, praised Chief Jubril Sanusi for his remarkable developmental and humanitarian contributions.
Representing the Ona Ara PDP women, Hon. Oluwatosin Olaoye Asiata reaffirmed their full support for JDS Guber Movement.
Honourable Asiata however called for a commitment to 40 per cent female inclusion in the JDS administration, if Sanusi emerges victorious.
Hon. Adenike Olaniyan, the PDP Women Leader, Ibadan North-East, the government of Governor Seyi Makinde, also offered prayers for the success of Sanusi in his bid for the governorship seat.
PDP women leaders from other local government areas, including Adekunle Rasidat (Oyo West), Alao Nurat Lola (Atiba), Samson Oyeyemi (Afijio), Jimoh Simbiat (Oyo East), Ogunbiyi Felicia (Ibarapa), Ayo Funmi Bakare (Akinyele) and Alao Basirat (Oluyole), echoed their support.
The PDP women leaders emphasised their belief in the leadership of Chief Sanusi and his vision for the future of Oyo State.
In his response, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi expressed deep gratitude to the PDP women’s wing for their steadfast support.
He urged them to continue their mobilisation efforts, assuring them that, if God wills his victory, their requests for greater female representation will be a key part of his manifesto and will be addressed when he assumes office.
“This declaration of support from the PDP women leaders further strengthens the governorship bid of Chief Sanusi, reflecting the growing momentum behind his campaign,” it was added in a statement.
