Honourable Aderemi Oseni, on Saturday, lifted metal artisans in Oyo State, under the aegis of the Blacksmith, Welders, Iron Benders and Metal Technicians Association of Nigeria (BWIAN), with a ₦250 million empowerment initiative.
The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives also announced a ₦50 million cooperative society, tagged Remi Oseni Soludero Cooperative Society, as part of the empowerment programme for the metal artisans.
Oseni made the announcement at the distribution of essential tools and equipment, valued at ₦100 million, to members of the metal association to improve their trade and livelihood.
The N250 million empowerment initiative by Oseni, including essential equipment welding tools, power generators and financial grants, was aimed at expanding the businesses of the BWIAN members, boost their incomes and also contribute to the economic development of Oyo State.
As disclosed by Oseni at the event, the initiative would help to enhance the skills, productivity and business potential of metal artisans across the state.
The federal lawmaker praised the resilience and contributions of blacksmiths, welders and other metal workers. He emphasised their vital roles in the economy of the state.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain underscored the empowerment initiative, stating that it was part of his broader agenda to support artisans.
“This is not just a celebration of progress, but a commitment to uplift the industrious metal workers of Oyo State,” Oseni, the Chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said.
Oseni further said: “Today marks a pivotal moment as we launch our empowering initiative, valued at ₦250 million, dedicated to enhancing the skills and livelihoods of our artisans.
‘Our empowerment program is structured into three folds, each designed to strengthen your capabilities and foster growth.
“Firstly, we are investing in capacity-building and skills enhancement. The modern world of metalwork demands cutting-edge techniques and technologies.
“By equipping you with essential knowledge and technical know-how, we are laying a foundation for excellence.
“When you know more, you can do better, driving growth in your professional endeavours. Understanding that knowledge is power, we intend to equip you with the tools to excel in your craft.
“Secondly, we are distributing essential equipment welding tools, power generators and many more. These are not mere instruments; they are investments in your future, providing you with the means to innovate and evolve in your trade.
“Thirdly, as a staunch advocate of the APC-led government innovative entrepreneurship scheme under President Bola Ahmed’s Renewed Hope Agenda, today, as part of empowerment for BWIAN Oyo State chapter members, I am launching a 50 million Naira cooperative society, the Remi Oseni Soludero Cooperative Society.
“This initiative offers BWIAN members in the 33 local government areas of Oyo State access to a zero-interest revolving fund. This fund will serve as a catalyst for entrepreneurial growth, nurturing businesses and improving living standards.”
He said the empowerment programme, was not just a donation, but a strategic initiative designed to help the metal artisans, not only to sustain, but also to expand their businesses.
He expressed the hope that it would help to alleviate poverty, generate jobs for youths, catalyze rapid economic development and provide relief and hope for ordinary citizens in Oyo State.
Oseni said the empowerment programme would also ensure that the metal artisans were able to face, with courage and resilience, the current economic uncertainties in Nigeria marked by the soaring of fuel prices and the fluctuating dollar rates.
Oseni added: “To the beneficiaries of this empowerment here today, I urge you to utilise these resources wisely. Use them wisely to engage and train the youth, enhance your income, support your households and extend compassion to those less privileged, just as you have been supported today.”
The lawmaker reflected on his various interventions since taking office. He noted that these included key educational initiatives, such as sponsoring over 700 students for JAMB exams and providing free WAEC registration for 400 students in 2024.
The lawmaker also celebrated the success of his “Raising 100 Youth Millionaires Project,” which he said has created 12 young millionaires since its launch in December, 2023.
Honourable Aderemi Oseni was later presented with an award as the Governor-General of BWAIAN, Oyo State chapter.
Speaking at the event, the Oyo State chairman of BWIAN, Munirudeen Adegoke Rauf, lauded Oseni’s gesture and called on other political leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to follow his example by supporting small and medium-scale entrepreneurs.
He assured that the equipment would be used responsibly for the benefit of the members of the association and also to improve the economy of the state.
