Ayobami Aderemi, 43-year-old artisan, was, on Wednesday arraigned before the Gwagwalada Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory for allegedly cheating a businesswoman of N420,000.
The artisan, who resides at Old NEPA Road, Kuje, Abuja, was charged by the Police on a two-count offence of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecution counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the matter was reported, on 7 January, 2020, at the Kuje Police Station by the complainant, Princess Abimbola, a resident of Off Holy Family Kuje, Abuja.
According to Yakubu, the complainant had, last September, given the defendant the sum of N420,000 to fix casements and put nets on the 16 windows of her two-bedroom apartment.
He said they both agreed to use standard material of 5mm glass, but the defendant allegedly bought and used substandard glass and refused to finish the work, an offence which he said contravened the provisions of Sections 320 and 311 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, Ayobami Aderemi, pleaded guilty to the two charges and promised to pay N70,000 to the complainant.
The Magistrate, Yusuf Ibrahim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 and one reasonable surety and ordered that both the defendant and surety must provide a valid means of identification to the satisfaction of the court.
He ordered the defendant to write an undertaking to pay N70, 000 to the complainant on or before 31 January, 2021 and adjourned the case until 18 February, 2021, for determination.
