Arrest of suspected three armed robbers in Ibadan
It stated in a release on Sunday by the PPRO, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, that the three suspects were arrested following a swift response to a distress call reporting an armed robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout, Ibadan.
“The prompt intervention underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and preventing criminal activities across the state.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 8 October, 2026, at about 9:15 p.m., when the DPO Oluyole Divisional Headquarters received information that some armed men were attacking and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings around the location.
“Acting promptly on the information, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene,” it was stated in the release.
It was further disclosed that the patrol team, upon arrival at the scene of the incident, confronted, over-powered and arrested the three male suspects.
Their names were given as Sunday Obasola, aged 29; Kayode Bamikole, aged 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, aged 23.
It was further stated that the arrests also resulted in the recovery of items suspected to have been used in or connected with the criminal activity.
As stated in the release, the exhibits recovered included one black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol, and one live cartridge.
The Police disclosed that all the items have been secured as exhibits to support further investigation.
“During preliminary investigations, the suspects confessed to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers, as well as injuring other persons during their criminal operations.
“The information obtained forms part of the ongoing investigation into the incident and the suspects’ alleged activities.
“Consequently, the three suspects remain in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation,” it was added in the release.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has restated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He again stated that this can be done through prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing, and sustained operations against criminal elements.
The Command therefore urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the police.
“Timely and credible information from residents remains essential to strengthening security and maintaining public safety across Oyo State,” it was added.
