Ahead of the 2027 elections, Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, held a closed-door meeting in Ibadan with a presidential aspirant, Mr Peter Obi, former governors from the South-East, and others.
This was as Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, stated that he and others were in Ibadan to consult with Governor Makinde on the 2027 elections.
The meeting, held at the Governor’s Office, also had in attendance former governors of Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra states, Dr Sam Egwu, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, and Chief Achike Udenwa, respectively.
Others present at the meeting were Senator Ben Obi, Dr Oseloka Obaze, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu and Chief Ali Odefa.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, Mr Obi said the delegation visited Governor Makinde to consult with him on the coalition for the 2027 general election and how to build a better Nigeria.
He said: “We have come to respectfully consult my dear brother, His Excellency, the governor of Oyo State on the coalition on the 2027 election and the overall well-being of Nigeria, because it is about Nigeria; it is about how to build a better Nigeria.
“It is about how we can build a better Nigeria where we would all be proud to say, ‘this is our country’; a Nigeria where a child of nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody,” he said.
Answering questions from newsmen on what Nigerians should look forward to ahead of 2027, Obi said: “They should expect a better Nigeria.
“They should expect a more united, secure and progressive Nigeria where we are going to move the country from a consumption economy to a production economy and get our people employed.”
