Sunday Igboho’s Wife Released With Her Passport •FG Didn’t File Formal Extradition Notice Against Igboho
There is a twist in the trial of the Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho), as the court sitting on his case in the Republic of Benin, has released his wife, Ropo, declaring that she committed no offence that can warrant her continued detention.
This was as the court, which is still sitting as at 9:00pm, Nigerian time, also released her German International Passport to her, for the same reason.
Meanwhile, it has been discovered that the Federal Goverment did not file any formal extradition notice against the detained Yoruba activist.
A source close to the court disclosed that the Nigerian government only approached the authorities in the Republic of Benin and verbally asked that Igboho should be detained and extradited for alleged gun-running and for formenting trouble.
“I can authoritatively tell you that the court in the Republic of Benin is still sitting as at 9:00pm, Nigerian time, over the extradition case against Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho).
“I can also tell you that the court has granted freedom to, Mrs Ropo Adeyemo, the wife of Igboho and also released her German International passport to her. She was released on the ground that she was not found complicit of any offence.
“Strange enough, it has been discovered that the Nigerian government didn’t not file any formal extradition notice against Sunday Igboho.
“Rather, it only made a verbal allegation, accusing Sunday Igboho of gun-running and formenting trouble. They want the Beninise court to keep him in custody, pending their filing a formal charge against him in Nigeria for gun-running and formenting trouble,” the source said.
