Senator Babafemi Ojudu will, on Sunday, join a panel to discuss the controversial book written by former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, A Journey In Service: An Autobiography of Ibrahim Babangida.

The panel will be talking on “Discussion On General Ibrahim Babangida’s Book (Babangida and Nigeria: Rewriting History).”

Senator Babafemi Ojudu is a distinguished journalist, media entrepreneur and politician whose career spans over four decades of impactful contributions to Nigerian democracy, governance and public discourse.

A fearless advocate for press freedom and good governance, the name of Ojudu is etched in the annals of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, particularly for his role in resisting military dictatorship through investigative journalism and activism.

Born and raised in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Ojudu’s passion for truth and justice led him into journalism, where he became a force to be reckoned with.

As a co-founder of The News and Tempo magazines—two of Nigeria’s most influential pro-democracy publications—Ojudu stood at the frontline of resistance against the military rule of General Sani Abacha.

His unyielding stance on democracy and human rights led to his incarceration in 1997, spending nearly nine months in solitary confinement for his fearless reporting.

With the return of democracy in 1999, Ojudu transitioned from journalism into politics, bringing his integrity and experience to public service.

In 2011, he was elected Senator representing Ekiti Central in the Nigerian Senate, where he championed legislative initiatives that focused on press freedom, human rights, and national development.

His tenure was marked by his unwavering commitment to accountability and his advocacy for policies that would improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Beyond the Senate, Ojudu has served as Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, a role in which he provided strategic counsel on national affairs.

His expertise and deep understanding of Nigeria’s socio-political landscape have made him a respected voice in governance and policy formulation.

A prolific writer, public intellectual and mentor to many young journalists and activists, Ojudu continues to contribute to national discourse through his writings, lectures, and public engagements.

His recently released memoir, Adventures of a Guerrilla Journalist, chronicles his remarkable journey in journalism, activism, and public service, serving as an inspiration for the next generation of change-makers.

Senator Babafemi Ojudu remains a steadfast advocate for democracy, social justice, and development and engagement with him, be it interviews or lectures always promise to be thought-provoking and challenge Nigerians to think critically about the future of the nation.

Date is Sunday, March 16, 2025; Time-5 PM, Nigeria, 11 AM, Austin and 6 PM, South Africa
