Odumakin: A Part Of Me Is Gone-Joe Okei
Foremost human right activist, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, has confirmed the death of her husband, Yinka, declaring that a part of her life is gone, with the passage of her husband.
Odumakin, who was the spokesman of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere until his passage this early morning, died of complications from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The vocal critic and activist who was reported dead at about 10am, was said to had been on ventilator at a treatment centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Lagos for some time.
A report also had it that he “had serious underlining conditions including diabetes, lung-related issues and a mild stroke he suffered a few years ago.
“He had a lung surgery before he was put on a ventilator. His case reportedly took a turn for the worse last week, with doctors concluding he had few days left.”
Confirming the death of her husband, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, confirmed the death in a short press release, declaring: “A Part Of Me Is Gone.
“With gratitude to the Supreme Being for a life well spent, I announce the passing on of my beloved husband, Comrade Yinka Odumakin, to the great beyond after a brief illness.
“The sad event happened this morning (Saturday, 3/4/2021) at the intensive care unit of LASUTH where he was being managed for respiratory issues due to complications from COVID-19 which he had recovered from about a week ago.
“I appreciate the outpouring of grief and sympathy from home and abroad as I mourn my irreplaceable soulmate. I urge us all to remain steadfast in the cause of the masses to which he dedicated his life.”
The human rights activist also announced that the burial arrangement of her late husband will be made public in due course.
