As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Day, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi has called for renewed hope, unity and resilience as the nation faces various challenges, especially in the wake of the recent economic adjustments.
The Jagunmolu Olubadan of Ibadanland and Chairman of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort stated this in his Independence Day message to the Nigerian people.
Chief Sanusi, in recognising the significance of the day, reflected on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence in 1960. He acknowledged the strength and endurance of Nigerians in navigating through difficult periods.
Sanusi emphasised that, while the removal of fuel subsidy has led to heightened economic pressures, the President Bola Tinubu administration is taking deliberate steps to alleviate the burden and restore stability to the country.
“The removal of fuel subsidy has undoubtedly caused hardship, and we feel the impact across all sectors. However, it is important to note that such measures, though tough in the short term, are part of broader efforts to restructure our economy for sustainable growth,” he stated.
Sanusi expressed the belief that President Tinubu’s government is laying the foundation for long-term prosperity. He pointed out various initiatives aimed at addressing the economic challenges.
These, according to him, included targeted interventions to ease inflation, stabilise the currency and support small and medium-sized businesses.
As a business leader and a passionate advocate for Nigeria’s economic development, Chief Sanusi urged citizens to adopt a proactive approach, viewing the challenges as opportunities for innovation and growth.
“Now more than ever, we must think outside the box. The global economy is evolving, and this is the time to tap into our entrepreneurial spirit, create new pathways, and transform the disappointment into opportunities,” he remarked.
Sanusi encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, resilient, and united in their collective efforts to build a better future for the country, underscoring the importance of patience and perseverance.
“The journey ahead requires us to work together, staying focused on building a Nigeria that we can all be proud of. It will not be easy, but with determination, we will overcome the current difficulties and emerge stronger,” he stated.
Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi reiterated his commitment to supporting the people of Oyo State and Nigeria at large, urging Nigerians to stay hopeful as the country charts its course toward recovery and growth.
“As we celebrate 64 years of independence, let us take pride in how far we have come while also preparing for the road ahead.
“Together, we can rise above our present challenges and shape a Nigeria that thrives in peace, prosperity, and progress,” Sanusi concluded.
