The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management (Global Alliance) has announced its annual Student and Young Practitioners (SYP) Month, 2024 edition.
It stated that the SYP Month, scheduled to take place on 6 November, will showcase a variety of activities across six global regions, with the theme “Responsible Communication“.
Secretary General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and member of the African Regional Council (ARC) of Global Alliance (Global Alliance), Dr Omoniyi Ibietan, stated this in a release.
As contained in the release, foundational element of the 2024 SYP Month is #NextInLine initiative which aims to empower students and young practitioners to uphold and advance the standards of responsible and ethical communication.
“The #NextInLine Rocket Forum will feature a series of forums, discussions and conferences focused on developing actionable strategies for responsible communication.
“Importantly, participants will also sign a global manifesto as a commitment to becoming ethical and responsible young communication professionals,” Global Alliance added.
It disclosed that the #NextInLine Hero Web Conference will unite young speakers from around the globe, in the spectrum of recent graduates to industry leaders, to engage in impactful discussions.
“This virtual roundtable, scheduled on November 6, will feature the future of responsible communication through interactive sessions and shared insights. This should empower participants with the insights they need to excel in their respective fields.
“During this web conference, the #NextInLine Responsible Communicators’ Recognition ceremony will honor a total of 60 exceptional candidates, with 10 nominees selected from each region, recognising their outstanding contributions in innovation, social impact and responsible communication.
“There will be a launch of a dedicated web page to provide students and young practitioners access to internship and job opportunities, and an online hub which will serve as a digital repository of information that supports continuous learning and skill development,” it was added.
Ibietan disclosed that he and other members of ARC recently had an extensive meeting with Ana Pista, a Board Member of Global Alliance and Chair of the Student and Young Practitioners Month.
Pista captured the essence of the SYP thus: “We believe in the power of the next generation in driving meaningful change in public relations and communication…
“This year’s initiative highlights the importance of empowering these emerging leaders with the essential tools and resources they need to elevate industry standards.”
Justin Green, CEO and President, Global Alliance, also said: “We’re witnessing a shift in how communication shapes societies, and it’s essential that young professionals are not only equipped with technical skills but also a strong ethical foundation.
“Our goal is to inspire these future leaders to challenge norms, embrace innovation and always prioritise responsibility in their work.
“This initiative is about ensuring they’re prepared to drive meaningful, positive change in the global communication landscape.”
