APC, PDP Senators Drop Party Affiliation For Olubadan-Designate
It was an atmosphere devoid of political colouration as three serving senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came together to celebrate the Olubadan-designate, High Chief Lekan Balogun, in Ibadan, today.
Senator Kola Balogun, of the PDP, led two of his colleagues in the upper chamber of the National Assembly to pay homage to his elder brother, the Olubadan-elect who is also a former member of the Senate, at his Alarere residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The two senators, both from the APC, are Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, representing Ekiti North Senatorial District and Senator Tolu Odebiyi, representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the Senate.
The duo, along with Senator Balogun and three other lawmakers from the South-West, were in Ibadan for a programme tagged “Open Square: A Town Hall Meeting Between Legislators And Their Constituents”.
The programme, anchored by Melony Ishola and held at the Jogor Centre, was organised by Daria Media, in partnership with Channels TV, Radio Now and MacArthur Foundation.
Immediately after the programme, Senator Balogun, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, led both Senator Adetunmbi and Senator Odebiyi on the visit to the Olubadan-designate.
Senator Kola Balogun said his colleagues, including the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, always wish to speak on phone with the Olubadan-designate, even during plenary.
Amid banters, Senator Adetunmbi and Senator Odebiyi prayed for Senator Lekan Balogun, just as they expressed their desire to be present during the coronation of the Olubadan-designate.
The Olubadan-designate, who danced to the rhythm of the beat of traditional drummers assembled in his house, warmly received the three senators and expressed delight at seeing them.
High Chief Balogun also said he would be happy to see and receive the two senators, along with their other colleagues during his installation as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.
