Charitable Wisemen Club of Nigeria recently disbursed a sum of N1.5m to some patients at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
Members of the club, on Wednesday, 6 September, 2023, extended their philanthropical crusade to the beneficiary patients who cannot afford their medical bills.
The NGO started as a normal Whatsapp group initially intended to be a social club but metamorphosed into a legally registered foundation after a decision was made by its members.
Fueling the main objective of effecting positive change in society, the all-male club not only began operation four years ago, but has also been serving its purpose since inception.
Charitable Wisemen Club of Nigeria is made up of like-mind friends and business partners.
The president of the club, Mr. Olanrewaju Akeem Oladele, stated in a statement that, for the club, giving is more like a divine calling which cannot be ignored.
He said this was the reason each member are raising funds from their personal purse to accomplish any set charitable projects.
Oladele added that the gesture is more than an annual scheme as the club gave several desk, chairs and other items to the pupils of the prestigious Vetland Grammar School, Oko Oba, Agege.
Also said the gesture by the Charitable Wisemen Club of Nigeria, in its 2022 programme, having reached out to market women, widows and the less privileged.
The club president also disclosed that the foundation still has ongoing plans to donate relief materials to some orphanage homes before the end of the year.
Oladele expressed the desire of the Charitable Wisemen Club of Nigeria to spread its arms of philanthropy across Nigeria, as its operation is presently limited to Lagos State.
The 27-member club disclosed that it is opened to collaborations with inspiring individuals, financial institutions and the government.
Public Relations Officer of the club, Mr. Oluwole Christopher Tugbobo, emphasised the level of impact it made in previous years.
He expressed regrets that they did not have proper documentation, noting that club is not into philanthropy to create an impression before the public, but to have positive imprints on humanity.
“Charity has been our watchword, just as the name implies. We see the need for us to be here to make sure the internally generated fund (IGR) is being properly dispatched by the LASUTH Welfare Management to its recipients,” Tugbobo said.
Mr. Kayode Araoye, Director of LASUTH Social Welfare Department and Mr Jamiu Idris, another staff in the department, expressed their gratitude to the Charitable Wisemen Club of Nigeria.
They promised that the fund will be appropriately shared across board to the needy such as the children, medical, surgical and O&G.
The department encouraged other organisations to emulate the good gesture and steps taken by the Charitable Wisemen Club Of Nigeria.
