Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting indigenous content, saying it is essential to unlocking the immense potentials in the telecoms sector.

It also made it known that indigenous content, if well harnessed, would serve as a catalyst for national economic growth and prosperity.

This was as the Commission restated that the sector remains a beacon of advancement in digital telecommunications technology.

Team Lead NODITS, NCC, Engineer Babagana Digima, said these in his opening remarks at the second edition of the Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content EXPO (NTICE 2023).

The NTICE 2023, organised by NCC, was recently held in Lagos with the theme, “Harnessing Indigenous Content for Economic Growth; Networking to Boost Investment”.

Digima said the key to unlocking the immense potentials in the sector lies in the ability to harness the wealth of indigenous content, to leverage the unique perspectives and talents, and to channel them towards the greater good.

He said the sector remains a beacon of advancement “in an era where connectivity is the backbone of progress, where the digital realm intertwines with every facet of our lives.”

He added that the sector is not just only about communication, but also about empowerment, education, healthcare, commerce and more.

“This expo is not just a congregation of like-minded individuals: It is a nexus of innovation and creativity.

“It is a platform where ideas are exchanged, partnerships are forged, and collaborations are born.

“It is a space where the synergy of diverse minds transforms into actionable strategies that will propel us towards new horizons of economic growth and sustainable development,” Digima said.

The NODITS Team Lead said NTICE sought for collaboration and growth in the dynamic landscape of telecommunications and indigenous content.

“We have convened here to celebrate the rich tapestry of ideas, talents, and innovations that define Nigeria’s telecom industry.

“This event stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering homegrown solutions that not only drive economic prosperity but also propel us towards a future brimming with endless possibilities.”

Digima said the NTICE 2023 was about discussions that transcended conventional boundaries in the quest for using indigenous content as a catalyst for economic growth.

He advocated how networking can foster investment, and how the intersection of technology and culture can lead the country to the forefront of global innovation.

He therefore encouraged participants at the expo to actively engage, share their insights, and absorb the wisdom that can be gathered at the event.

“The connections you make, the conversations you have, and the ideas you generate during this expo could very well be the seeds of transformation that Nigeria’s telecom industry needs to flourish.

“Let us embark on this remarkable journey together, for a future that is not only connected but also proudly Nigerian in its essence,” he added.

The Nigeria Office for Development of Indigenous Telecoms Sector (NODITS) was created by NCC in July 2021.

It is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to drive the National Policy for Promotion of Indigenous Content in the Nigerian telecommunications sector.
