Why We’re Having Wastes In Port Harcourt-Obuah
Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro Felix Obuah, has attributed the wastes noticed on Friday in some parts of Port Harcourt, the state capital and its environs to challenges the agency is having with some of its dump sites.
This was as he however said the agency is working on the affected dump sites and assured that the wastes would be evacuated.
Obuah, according a statement by his media aide, Jerry Needam, gave the explanation shortly after an official visit to the affected dump sites.
He revealed that three of the major RIWAMA dump sites broke down following a sudden downpour on Thursday, it affected some of the Agency’s equipments.
He however assured that efforts are being made to put the affected dump sites back to use, before the end of today so as to commence their full utilisation.
The RIWAMA boss explained that evacuation of wastes will be delayed today due to the breakdown of the dump sites, occasioned by a sudden downpour last night.
Bro. Obuah appealed to residents in Port Harcourt and its environs, especially from the affected areas where wastes are yet to be evacuated, to bear with the agency as everything humanly possible is being done to ensure that the dump sites are put back to use without delay and the wastes evacuated.
The RIWAMA sole administrator called on residents in the affected areas to observe sanitary decorum and not to take undue advantage of the situation to dump their refuse indiscriminately.
Obuah expressed his appreciation to the affected residents for their understanding and assured that the agency would not relent in its effort to ensure that the state is kept clean at all times.
