A 45-year-old man who allegedly killed his wife over ownership of a private school, Ebenezer Segun Omotosho, was, on Sunday, arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command.
As contained in a press release, the suspect was said to have beaten his 42-year-old, wife, Olubukola Omotosho, to death, hitting her on the head with a padlock.
However, investigation revealed that the man killed (though inadvertently) his wife following serial disputes over his alleged desire to have control of a private school built by the deceased.
The Ogun Police image-maker, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated in the release, AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/171.21/11/2022, that Segun Omotosho was arrested following a complain lodged at the Kemta Divisional Headquarters on 14 November, 2022.
He stated that the elder sister of the deceased had reported that Olubukola Omotosho was beaten and seriously injured by her husband over a minor disagreement.
“The deceased was subsequently rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba Abeokuta by the suspect for medical attention but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.
“Unknown to the husband, the deceased had sent a voice note to her family members, informing them that her husband has used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her, and that if she dies, they should be awared that it was her husband that killed her.
“As soon as the voice note was played to his hearing, the husband took to his heels having realised that his evil deed had been exposed,” SP Oyeyemi wrote in the release.
He further said, “upon the report and the recording evidence, the DPO Kemta division, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, detailed his detectives to go after the killer-husband and fish him out from wherever he might be.
“He was subsequently traced to Akinseku Village, Abeokuta where he has been hibernating and was promptly apprehended,” he added.
Oyeyemi said preliminary investigation revealed that deceased built a private school in her name and her husband, but the husband, who is a carpenter, had wanted to take over the control of the school.
He further informed that the deceased, who was an NCE graduate, refused to hand over the control of the private school to her husband.
“This has been the reason why the suspect has always been beating the deceased until the fateful day when he used the iron padlock to hit her on the head, which eventually led to her death,” Oyeyemi disclosed.
He also informed that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
