Senator Uche Ekwunife, PhD (IYOM) has commiserated with the victims of the current flooding that ravaged some parts of Anambra State and other parts of the country.
The senator, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, stated this in her condolence message to the families of the victims that flooding comes with pyschological impacts.
Ekwunife said her sincere prayers are with families currently displaced by the flooding in Anambra State and some parts of the country.
Senator Ekwunife said the extent of damage to property, destruction of crops, loss of livestock and in some cases loss of lives experienced during such an incident are heart-rending.
The senator said this year’s floodings have risen beyond the usual level and called on all stakeholders to rise up to the responsibility of supporting the victims at all levels.
She called on all stakeholders to work across political, religious and social divides to reach out to the victims, and urged the people to ensure that they keep safe and clean environment.
Senator Ekwunife said: “Flooding comes with its psychological impact on victims. We must work across political, religious and social divides to reach out to our brothers and sisters in distress.
“I recognise the efforts of the government of Anambra State towards providing succour to victims of this year’s flooding, which is believed to have risen beyond the usual levels.
“We must all rise to the responsibility of supporting the victims at personal, community, local government, constituency and state levels.”
Senator Ekwunife however urged the people to all work “to ensure that we shun activities that have negative impact on our environment.”
May God comfort the displaced, particularly those seeking shelter in the various emergency holding camps in the state, she prayed.
Recalled that thousands of people have been displaced by floodings in some states, including Anambra, Katsina, Nasarawa, Rivers, Bayelsa, Kogi, and Jigawa in recent weeks.
This was as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) disclosed that over 300 people have been killed by devastating floods in 2022.
