“In 1960, you rewarded the efforts and yearnings of our past leaders by granting us independence from the shackles of colonialism. Since then, we have survived only through Your mercies and grace.
“As we mark, today, our 62nd Independence Anniversary, may Your mercies abound in all the multi-faceted areas of our national life.
“Replace despair with hope, insecurity with peace, disunity with togetherness and love.
“Cleanse the minds of our leaders to abhor corruption, nepotism and tribal bigotry.
“Have mercy on our economic travails and let there be a turn-around that will create employment opportunities for our youths whilst rekindling the pride of nationhood in our Armed Forces.
“Above all, help us to bequeath a nation of justice, prosperity, love and tranquility to future generations. Amen.”
