FG Gives Bandits Free Reins-Sen Okon
Senator Anietie Okon, a Third Republic federal lawmaker, has alleged that the Federal Government gives free reins to banditry, insurgency and kidnapping in some parts of the country.
Okon, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly condemned the kid’s gloves treatment being accorded criminal elements in the northern parts of the country.
Senator Okon, who was the pioneer publicity and organising secretary of the PDP, said this while speaking with journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
Okon, who represented Uyo Senatorial District during the Third Republic, is a national caucus member of the main opposition party.
He said: “It is unfortunate that the Buhari-led administration is treating insurgents and bandits with kid’s gloves, leaving bandits to operate freely in some parts of the north daily tormenting and dehumanising Nigerians.
“It is giving law-abiding Nigerians serious concern that the primary duty of government which is to ensure the security of lives and property is no longer guaranteed under the present administration.”
He wondered why the same Federal Government descends heavily on agitators in the South-East with full military might during the #EndSARS protest.
He further regretted that the same government, which is overlooking the activities of bandits and their cohorts who claim to be speaking and negotiating on their behalf in the North, is all out to crush unarmed agitators in the South-East with full military might.
