Senator Kola Balogun has described the killings, on Sunday, in a church at Owo, Ondo State, as a dastardly act perpetrated against God and humanity.
Some yet-yo-be-identified had, during service, stormed the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo, Ondo State, killing scores of worshippers.
The senator, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, expressed sadness at the ugly development, noting that it beats comprehension that some human beings can carry out such a heinous act on their fellow humans.
Senator Balogun said this in a press release by his media aide, Mr Dapo Falade, condoling the Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the people of Owo and families of the victims of the murderous attack.
He also called on the governors of the six south-western state to up the ante in the fight against insecurity across the zone.
Balogun said it is imperative for the governors to beef up security, particularly now, given the fact the Lagos State government recently banned the operations of okada riders (commercial motorcyclists) in some parts of the state.
He said, in view of the development in Lagos State, the other five governors in the South-West should be more security-conscious and take appropriate measures to stem the influx of criminal elements into their various states.
“I heard, with great sadness, the ugly and unfortunate killings that occured, on Sunday, at the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo, Ondo State.
“The killing of innocent worshippers during a church service, even at any point in time, is a dastardly act against God and humanity. This should be roundly condemned by all.
“The criminal elements in our society are becoming emboldened the more on a daily basis. Our security agencies should all be alive to their responsibility to safeguard lives and property.
“I am particularly calling on our governors in the South-West zone to beef up security. The Amotekun should be properly equipped to work with the regular security agencies.
“Concerted efforts should be made to bring the perpetrators of this evil act to justice. Doing this will be a honour to the memory of the victims and also to serve as a deterrent to other evil-minded people.
“My condolences to the governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu. I also condole with the people of Owo and the families of the victims. May God rest the souls of the departed,” Senator Kola Balogun stated in the release.
