Two suspected armed robbers who allegedly snatched a motorcycle and subsequently killed the rider have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.
The two suspects, Hammed Ismail and Osoba Yakubu, were apprehended following a report lodged at the Sango Divisional Police Headquarters, last Tuesday, by one Saliu Buhari.
The state police image-maker, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated in a release, AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/86/20/03/2022, that Saliu said his 25-year-old son, Yusuf Buhari, left home with his motorcycle a day before the report.
DSP Oyeyemi further stated that the body of the slain motorcyclist was found in an uncompleted building while his motorcycle was missing.
He added that the corpse of the motorcyclist was evacuated by the police detectives that were sent to the scene of the incident.
He said the corpse was handed over to the family of the motorcyclist who insisted on burying him according to their religious belief.
“Saliu Buhari told the police that his son was found dead in an uncompleted building at Araromi Village via Ilogbo town, and his motorcycle is nowhere to be found.
Upon the report, the DPO Sango Ota Division, SP Saleh Dahiru, sent detectives to the scene where the corpse was evacuated and handed over to the family who insisted on burying him according to their religious belief.
“Determined to unravel the mystery behind the gruesome murder of the victim, the DPO and his men embarked on technical and intelligence-based investigation.
“And, in conjunction with the community vigilante and So Safe Corps, Ismail Hammed was arrested with the motorcycle of the victim.
“His arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice, Osoba Yakubu.
“They have confessed to the commission of the crime and are helping the police in their investigation,” DSP Oyeyemi said in the release.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the two suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
