The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, nullified the swearing-in of the factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Augustine Ekanem.
The trial judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, also ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Certificate of Return issued to Ekanem who is of the faction of the party in the state, led by Senator John Udoedehe.
The judge further ordered that Obong Stephen Ntukekpo should be immediately sworn in as the duly elected chairman of the APC, Akwa Ibom State chapter.
Justice Taiwo Taiwo frowned at the impunity that was said to have been perpetrated by Udoedehe in the state chapter of the party.
“This court decries Udoedehe’s impunity. Internal democracy connotes political parties obeying their constitutions and party guidelines,” the trial judge said in his judgment.
