Omodewu A Bomb Planted To Destroy Oyo APC-Babalola
Factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, Mr Sunday Babalola, has declared that Mr Ajiboye Omodewu is a bomb deliberately planted to destroy the party in Oyo State.
This was as he said Oyo APC, presently, has no elected chairman, noting that Omodewu, rather than being issued with a Certificate of Return, “was presented with a mere recharge card that will soon expire.”
He said this in reaction to the controversies generated over the official recognition given to Omodewu by the APC National Secretariat as the chairman of the party in Oyo State.
Babalola, while speaking with Newscoven.ng, said the national leadership of the party erred by making Omodewu the Oyo APC chairman, noting however that the ensuing crisis over the decision can be resolved within 48 hours.
“Ajiboye Omodewu is a bomb that has been deliberately planted to destroy the APC in Oyo State. We have no elected chairman in the state, as at today.
“What happened in Abuja is just a mere presentation of recharge card that will soon expire to Omodewu and to all those fellows he sworn in as members of the executives of the party in the state.
“As far as I am concerned, we never elected anybody in the person of Omodewu as the Oyo APC chairman. The only consensus chairman that is known to me and all other stakeholders is Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi and that is all.
“The truth will soon prevail. The national leadership of the party committee a blunder by making Omodewu the chairman of the Oyo APC,” he said.
Babalola said the APC National Secretariat confessed to making a mistake, adding that the national secretary of the party’s convention, Senator John Akpanudoehede, had once openly apologised over the error.
He recalled that, following a protest by some stakeholders over the controversial state congress, the APC National Secretariat had directed that the stakeholders of the party should produce a harmonised consensus list, comprising of all party executives across the seven zones without any biases.
Babalola said the exercise, which was conducted by the late former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Chief Akin Oke, former deputy governors Iyiola Oladokun and Moses Alake Adeyemo, was consented to in the residence the late Alao-Akala before his demise.
He said it was strange that the APC national leadership would rather follow the dictates of the minority as against the wish of the majority.
The stakeholders, he said, included Senator Ayo Adeseun, Chief Niyi Akintola, Chief Sunday Dare, Dr Bayo Shittu, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Senator Soji Akanbi, Senator Fatai Buhari, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, Professor Adeolu Akande, Dr Ismail Adewusi, Dr Joseph Tegbe and Dr Azeez Adedutan, among several others.
Babalola, however, said the ensuing crisis over Certificate of Return issued to the planted bomb, Omodewu, can be resolved in 48 hours, if the APC national leadership can return to the status quo and do the needful.
“All they need to do is to recall the consensus list, as submitted by Chief Akin Oke. Senator Akpanudoehede took photographs with Baba Oke then, not knowing that they were deceiving us.
“All the governorship aspirants in the party, with the exemption of Senator Teslim Folarin, decided to work together. But they now decided to hand over the party to Senator Folarin, leaving out others.
“I don’t know what informed the wisdom in taking such a decision. The whole world should ask them what they are doing because most observers will see them as unserious,” Babalola added.
