34-Yr-Old Man Arraigned For Alleged Battery
A 34-year-old man, Sikiru Agboola, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged battery of his wife.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 8:20am on 5 December, 2021 behind Faglo Petrol Station in Ado-Ekiti.
Olasunkanmi alleged that Sikiru battered his wife, one Labake Agboola, thereby inflicting serious body injuries on her, adding that the defendant occasionally harmed one Ogunleye Olaosebikan.
According to the police prosecutor, the offences committed by the defendant contravened Sections 201(1) Ekiti Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Law 2019 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses, just as the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Michael Olaleye, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till 20 January, 2022 for hearing.
