Female Lawyers Protest Murder Of 7-Yr-Old Girl In Ekiti
Members of the Ekiti State chapter of the Association of the Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA), on Tuesday, took to the streets of Ado-Ekiti in their large number to demand justice for a seven-year-old girl, Demilade Fadare, who was murdered on Monday night by a lady who is said to be mentally deranged.
Demilade was gruesomely butchered by the suspect after she was sent on an errand by her mother to buy pap in the neighbourhood, on Monday morning.
The protesters however said they smelled rat, declaring that the excuse that the suspected murderer is having mental issue is just an excuse to pervert the course of justice.
The female lawyers, who carried placards and chanting songs to demand justice for the slain little girl, were joined by some other women and relatives of the deceased during the protest which took place in front of the Office of the Wife of the Ekiti State Governor.
Mrs Abimbola Ajaja, who spoke on behalf of the protesting female lawyers, expressed sadness over the incident, saying attack on girl-child has been on the increase on daily basis, despite campaign against such.
Calling on the police to carry out credible investigation into the matter and ensure that all those involved face the law, she said the excuse that the suspect was insane was not tenable, adding that it was a decoy to set the killer free.
Other people who spoke during the protest also appealed to the police to find the suspected murderer at all cost and bring her to book.
The social media was agog on Monday with the announcement that Demilade, who was said to had been sent by her mother to buy pap for breakfast at about 9am, was missing.
It was reported that the butchered body of the girl was found today inside a cooler at her neighbour’s compound, with all fingers pointing to the house of a pastor who is said to be the father of the suspected murderer.
