Man, 25, Arraigned For Allegedly Raping 24-Yr-Old Woman In Ekiti
The Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Thursday, ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Ayibiowu Seyi, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged rape of a 24-year-old woman.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged rape, as the police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on 20 October, 2021, at Ilupeju-Ekiti.
The police inspector alleged that the defendant raped a 24-year-old lady, adding that the said offence contravened Section 2(2) of Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence Law, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the defendant was not taken, as the Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice and adjourned the case till 13 December, 2021 for mention.
