Ekiti 2022: Fayemi Won’t Impose Candidate-Group
As the race for the 2022 governorship poll gathers momentum in Ekiti State, a group, the Ekiti APC Youth for Continuity, has assured that Governor Kayode Fayemi will not impose any candidate on the All Progressives Congress.
The group, in a statement by its coordinator, Mr Alade Emmanuel, also declared that the governor will support every legitimate process that will guarantee free, fair and hitch-free primary in the party.
This was as the group dispelled the rumour making rounds that Governor Fayemi and his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, were plotting to impose a candidate, allegedly by muzzling and armtwisting other aspirants.
Emmanuel hinted that Fayemi is a strong advocate and believer in justice, fair play and the rule of law and won’t take any step that would muzzle anyone or poses in manners that would circumvent or shortcircuit the standards set by the APC.
He said the imposition will never be part of the games in the APC, noting that the party is resolute about breaking the jinx of succession and would give Ekiti the best candidate that will surpass Fayemi’s achievements in all spheres.
“This I can assure Ekiti citizens and even the greatest skeptics that whatever action that will be taken by the APC under Governor Fayemi leadership will be a product of very extensive and engaging consultations with stakeholders and will resolve in what we believe is in the best interest of Ekiti populace
“Imposition, armtwisting, alienation, muscle-flexing, browbeating and muzzling will never be part of the games, because Governor Fayemi himself is a product of the rule of law and will never betray the trust reposed in him,” he said.
Emmanuel said the forthcoming governorship election is already half-won, taking cognisance of what he said is the superlative performance of Governor Kayode in the face of the paltry funds accruing into the state’s coffers externally and internally.
“The APC is a party with a strong will to contest elections. In July 14, 2018, the party fought hard and won the Ekiti governorship election, in spite of the unnecessarily amplified braggadocio of the then state’s chief executive and we are coming with the same unflagging spirit this time to deliver for Ekiti.
“Governor Kayode Fayemi has made huge positive impacts in the area of education, even the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) recently went round the schools in Ekiti and applauded the level of infrastructure in place and branded it a model for other states.
“The cummulative effects of what the state government and the Office of the First Lady are doing in terms of human capital development and poverty eradication is stunning.
“Agriculture is fast being commercialised with partnership with JMK, Stallion Group and Dangote Company in the area of mass rice production. Youths are now seeing farming as being dignified in Ekiti.
“Tree and crop seedlings running into millions are being distributed to farmers free. Salaries and pensions are paid regularly.
“Security is being accorded priority with the procurement of a drone against all odds that will be shipped to Ekiti soon to checkmate forest-bond kidnappers and other marauding bandits.
“The State Civic Centre that will serve as a rendezvous for youth to exchange progressive ideas, the ongoing IPP power plant, the Ero, Egbe and Ureje dams turn around maintenance and water reticulation to about nine local governments and road infrastructure across the three senatorial districts are areas that the current government has done exceedingly well.
“Apart from these astounding and superlative performances, the APC is united and solid on ground. We control the executive arm, the state and National Assembly, the 16 local governments and virtually all the political structures are in our kitty. These we will deploy legitimately to give our party a resounding victory.
“So, no cause for alarm. The APC primary will be a microcosm that would be acceptable to all tendencies and we will win the June 18, 2022 poll through thorough engagements of the services of all stakeholders and mobilisation of the generality of Ekiti voters for our party,” Emmanuel said.
