Why South-West Govs Visited Tinubu-Akeredolu
Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has said the six governors of the South-West region visited Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu in recognition of his position as a leader of the region.
He said the visit to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was deemed necessary, because the whole South-West believes in the leadership of the former governor of Lagos State.
Akeredolu, who is the chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, led his governor-colleagues to Senator Tinubu at his private residence in Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi, after their meeting at the Lagos State Government House, Marina.
These are contained in a statement by Seye Ajagbe, the media officer to the deputy governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, who represented the governor of the state, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, at the meeting.
Akeredolu said: “We deemed it fit to visit our leader who has returned home successfully and who is hale and hearty and to the glory of God Almighty. That is why we have visited him.”
The Ondo State governor said the whole South-West believes in the leadership of Tinubu “and he has shown that he is doing his best to lead us, as he is not only a leader of the South-West, but a leader of the entire nation and the South-West lays first claim to him.”
Speaking on the essence of the meeting held earlier at the Lagos State Government House, Governor Akeredolu said it was to discuss issues that affect the region and the way forward.
He said they discussed matters pertaining to the common heritage of the South-West, the Oodua Group of companies and issues bothering on security in the six south-western states.
Akeredolu, however, stated that the content and agreement of the deliberations, which was held behind closed doors for about two and half hours, will not be made public.
Other governors present at the meeting are Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and the host, Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), while ‘Seyi Makinde (Oyo) was represented by his deputy, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.
