Sasa Crisis: 4 Northern Govs Meet Makinde
Four governors from the northern part of the country were in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Monday evening, where they held talks with Governor Seyi Makinde over the violent ethnic crisis that erupted at the Sasa Market in Akinyele Local Goverment Area on Friday.
The four northern governors included Abubakar Sanni (Niger State); Mohammed Matawalle (Zamfara State); Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano State); and Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi State).
Speaking on the essence of the visit, Governor Seyi Makinde, in a short message on his Facebook page, said it was a solidarity visit.
“This evening we welcomed Governors, Abdullahi Ganduje, Bello Matawalle, Abubakar Bagudu and Abubakar Bello, who paid us a solidarity visit.
“We discussed the strategies our administration is putting in place to maintain peaceful co-existence of all residents of Oyo State,” Makinde said.
It would be recalled that the Sasa Market was engulfed in a violent crisis, following a clash between between some Hausa settlers and their indigenous neighbours, last Friday.
The clash reportedly led to the loss of lives and destruction of properties, including houses and trucks loaded with goods, just as the crisis spilled over through Saturday till Sunday.
In the wake of the clash, the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Saturday, announced an indefinite closure of the market and also imposed curfew on Sasa Market and its environs to restore nomalcy and avoid further loss of lives and destruction of property.
The Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, had also visited the scene of the violent clash, on Sunday, where he, along with his Oyo State counterpart, Governor Makinde, appealed for calm and peaceful co-existence among the people.
