Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, will, on Friday, coronate and present Staff of Office to three newly crown-wearing Ibadan, including Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland.
The two other obas to be crowned and presented with Staff of Office are Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, the Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland; and Oba Oyekola Babalola, SAN, the Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The Oyo State Government made the formal announcement in a press release by the state Commissioners for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, on Thursday.
The government stated that the coronation ceremony underscored the commitment of Governor Makinde to strengthening traditional institutions and preserving cultural heritage.
The coronation ceremony and presentation of Staff of Office to the three newly-elevated obas will be held at the historic Mapo Hall Grounds, Ibadan by 10:00 a.m.
As stated in the press release, the presentation of the Staff of Office to by Governor Makinde signified the formal endorsement of their elevated status as crown-wearing obas within the Ibadan traditional hierarchy.
“This development reflects the evolving structure of traditional leadership in Ibadanland,” it was stated in the statement.
It will be recalled that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has installed 12 obas and over 40 baales since 2019, a feat that is unequalled in the history of chieftaincy installation in oyo state.
Dignitaries from across the country, including traditional rulers, government officials, and members of the public, are expected to attend the event.
The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Demola Ojo, reaffirmed the dedication of the state government to promoting unity, cultural pride, and inclusive development through sustained collaboration with traditional authorities.
