VAT: Kayode Ojo Urges FG, States To Work In Harmony
A top governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Engineer Kayode Ojo, has admonished the Federal Goverment and the state governments to work in harmony to ensure that Value Added Tax (VAT) is maximally beneficial to all and sundry.
This was as he also called for the restructuring of the national security architecture as a way of tackling the growing rate of insecurity in the country.
The governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gave the admonition while answering questions from newsmen at Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
Ojo advised the government at the centre and the state governments to build on the existing harmonious relationship between them to resolve the controversies surrounding the issue of VAT.
“Let us remember that we are the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress. So, I don’t expect the VAT issue to disorganise us and degenerate to chaos.
“The committee set up by the Federal Government and the States should parley and see how they will generate VAT for the maximum benefit of all and sundry.
“The two parties should arrive at the best option that could be beneficial to both the federal and the states government and, I am sure, we can reach a compromise,” he said.
The APC governorship hopeful in the 2022 Ekiti governorship race decried the security situation in the country, saying people cannot travel for few kilometres without feeling apprehensive of being kidnapped.
Ojo, an industrialist and metallurgical and materials engineer, said the feeling of apprehension on the roads is a confirmation of how bad the security set up is.
“What we need now are people with good ideology, people with quality leadership skills, who could use their knowledge to revamp the economy, ensure security and bring succor to the people,” he said.
The APC governorship aspirant said all hands must be on the deck to strategise on how to mobilise everyone with a view to securing the streets, towns, immediate environments and villages.
“It is just that now that we have social media that it is easy to report situation. But I believe that the authority are taking actions to deal with the insecurity that is ravaging the country.
“All I will have to say is that the issue of security is not only for the government but for all of us. Every single person has a role to play,” he said.
