Mr Adeniyi Alebiosu, a deputy editor with Tribune Newspapers and immediate past chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter, will be conferred with the prestigious Veteran Journalist Award by SWAN.
The multiple award-winning sports journalist will receive the award of honour from the National Executive Council (NEC) of SWAN.
The conferment of the award of honour on Alebiosu is part of the activities lined up to celebrate SWAN Diamond Jubilee, scheduled to hold from 29 to 31 October, 2025 in Abuja.
As stated in a letter from the umbrella body of sports journalists in the country, signed by its Secretary General Mr Ikenna Okonkwo, the honour will be conferred on Alebiosu in recognition of his “outstanding contributions, professionalism and enduring service to the growth and integrity of sports journalism in Nigeria.”
The association noted with satisfaction that Alebiosu has, over the years, inspired generations of journalists through his commitment, mentorship and passion for the craft.
The award of recognition from SWAN NEC is the latest in the series of awards for the renowned sports journalist who, last Thursday, received a similar award of honour from Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, Press Centre, Iyaganku in Ibadan.
Mr Adeniyi Alebiosu, who served as the chairman of SWAN in Oyo State between 2016 and 2023, is currently the Public Relations Officer of the Paralympics Committee of Nigeria (PCN) as well as a member of Petitions Committee for the National Sports Federation Elections and Nigeria Football Federation Committee.
Mr Alebiosu whose experience and practice spanned over two decades, is widely traveled and has covered multiple editions of various national and international sports competitions, including National Sports Festivals, All Africa Games, Olympics and the World Cup.
