Ahead the governorship election coming up in Edo State on Saturday, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will deliver “the goods” to the residents of the state.
The Oyo State helmsman gave the assurance while speaking on Wednesday at the ground-breaking ceremony for the upgrading of the Samuel Ladoke Airport, Ibadan to international standard.
Governor Makinde used the occasion of the ground-breaking ceremony to call on residents of Edo State to support Mr Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the PDP in the governorship election in the state.
He called on the PDP leadership and its members to drop their differences and rally round the party’s candidate in the Edo governorship election so as to give real hope to the people of the state.
Governor Makinde equally noted that he and the Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, are solidly behind the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), under the leadership of the party’s national chairman, Amb. Umar Ilya Damagum.
“I am also glad that our acting National Chairman and members of his National Working Committee are here.
“I was reading yesterday (Wednesday) that there was another meeting in Bauchi. Let me say clearly that we are 100 per cent in support of the Damagun-led NWC. Whatever decision you take, we will support you to reposition our party,” he said.
The Oyo State governor, while acknowledging that there were issues in the party, urged the PDP members to bury the hatchet and focus on how to ensure victory for the party and its candidate in the governorship election.
“Let me also say this; even if we have issues within ourselves, we have an important election on Saturday. So, we should just rally round and deliver our candidate to give real hope to our people,” Governor Makinde added.
