Senator Sharafadeen Alli has called on youths across the country to harness the power of digital technology for sustainable development.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District made the in a message to felicitate Nigerian youths on the occasion of the 2024 International Youth Day.
The theme of the 2024 celebration is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.”
Senator Alli, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, emphasised the critical role of the youths in shaping the future of Nigeria.
He said the role of the youths is more important, particularly in the digital age. Alli encouraged them to be proactive in using technology to create positive change.
The lawmaker said the theme reflected the immense potential that digital innovation holds for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Senator Alli called on youths to seize the opportunities presented by the digital revolution to seek for self-growth and also work for the development of the country.
He however acknowledged the challenges facing Nigerian youths, particularly in the areas of unemployment and access to quality education.
Alli assured them of his commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that would empower young people and create a conducive environment for them to thrive.
According to Alli, “the future of Nigeria rests on the shoulders of the youth, and their active participation in nation-building is indispensable.”
The lawmaker called on government at all levels, private sector stakeholders as well as civil society organisations to invest more in digital infrastructure and education.
He stressed the importance of equipping young people with the skills as well as knowledge needed to navigate the digital landscape and contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.
Senator Alli congratulated Nigerian youths on their resilience and creativity, urging them to remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence.
Alli restated his belief in the power of the youths to drive Nigeria towards a brighter and more prosperous future through digital innovation as well as sustainable development.
