A former deputy governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, gave the advice in a goodwill message to Christians on the occasion of Christmas celebration.
He also urged Nigerians to reflect deeply on the significance of the yuletide and the essence of the birth of Jesus Christ who is the reason for the season.
Gbolarumi noted that Jesus Christ was sent to the world to give the people hope and co-habit with their fellow humans with love, joy, happiness and compassion.
He said Christmas is therefore a time for the people to share love and spread joy among themselves, strengthening the bond that holds them as a nation.
“My family and I wish you, my fellow Nigerians, especially our Christians brothers and sisters, a joyful and Merry Christmas.
“Jesus Christ is the reason we are celebrating Christmas. He was born to give us love and joy. He came to this world to give us hope. He was full of compassion and love for the human race.
“It is in this wise that we must reflect on the essence of Christmas and reflect deeply on the lessons therein. These include love, generosity, kindness and harmony.
“Christmas is peace, love, and unity among all people, regardless of religion, tribe or race. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, let us remember the values he held dear -compassion, selflessness and empathy.
“As we are celebrating this momentous occasion, I urge you to remember your fellow humans who are in need. Reach out to them with love and compassion.
“Let us treat our neighbours with love. Let us reach out to the needy, even from the little that we have. Let us share with love.
“We should remember our dear country at this trying moment. We should continually seek for its peace and progress. We should endeavour to keep and uphold the values that bind us together as a people and as a country.
“I wish you all Merry Christmas. May God Almighty keep us alive to celebrate many more of it in good health, happiness, joy and fulfillment,” he said.
