Eventually the great Arakunrin Oluwarotimi AKEREDOLU AKETI bid this world farewell. He was a great defender of human rights and democracy. He did this effectively as a radical left-of- the centre National President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).
He confronted, at all times, the mafia that believes that they are the only ones born to rule Nigeria. He did this so courageously in the quest for establishing AMOTEKUN.
While those who parade the Nigerian political landscape as defenders of TRUE FEDERALISM became dwarfs, AKEREDOLU deployed all the intellectual and professional arsenals, he so richly possessed, to tackle those who do not believe that Nigeria WILL only survive on the basis of a NEGOTIATED CONSENSUS, even at the risk of his second term ambition.
Notwithstanding his failing health, AKEREDOLU fought against those who believe that Nigerian Presidency is their inheritance.
As Chairman of South-West Governors’ Forum and Southern Governor’ Forum, he stood like a Rock of Gibraltar defending the concept of rotation of presidency, which is the only guarantee that all Nigerians will have equal access to political power.
I pray that Nigeria will produce more men of courage, men of principles… without whose active and timely support, DAWN would have paled into irrelevance.
Good night my brother.
