Christiana D’ivoire Iyama and Margaret Ogwu, two female baby factory operators, have been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated this in a release, AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/148. 05/09/2022.
The two suspects, Christiana D’ivoire Iyama and Margaret Ogwu, were arrested, on 27 August 2022, following an information received by the police at the Agbado Divisional Headquarters.
Oyeyemi stated in the release that, Christiana Iyama is operating a baby factory at her residence, No 4, Ibrahim Famuyiwa Street, Agbado, Ogun State.
She was said to be harbouring young girls in her residence where she hired men to impregnate them.
Thereafter, she will collect the babies on delivery and sell them to her waiting buyers.
It was stated that Margaret, one of the young girls harboured by Christiana in the baby-making factory, was impregnated by a man hired by the latter.
It was further reported that, upon delivery by Margaret, the baby was taken by Christiana and which she subsequently sold for the sum of N400, 000.
“Upon the information, the DPO Agbado Division, SP Awoniyi Adekunle, mobilized his detectives to the area where the said Christiana D’ivoire Iyama and Margaret Ogwu were arrested.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Margaret Ogwu was one of the girls harboured by Christiana D’ivoire to make babies.
“Christiana was said to have employed the service of a man to impregnate Margaret and collected the child on delivery, which she sold at the rate of N400, 000 to one of her customers.
“She also confessed to the police that she has sold up to three children from different women to her different customers,” SP Oyeyemi stated.
The Ogun police image-maker however said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
This, he said, is for the purpose of further investigation and diligent prosecution.
