35-Yr-Old Arraigned For Alleged Theft, Assault
A 35-year-old man, Ajayi Rotimi, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of stealing and assault.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, the defendant allegedly committed the two offences in Ise Ekiti, Ise/Orun Local Government Area at about 8am, on 22 November, 2021.
Leramo further alleged that the defendant stole timbers of wood, plantains, cocoa and 15 tubers of yam total valued at N5,000,000m, belonging to one Ogunleye Ayodeji.
He also alleged that the defendant assaulted the complainant by fighting him, adding that the offences contravenes Sections 390(9) and 355 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses, just as the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olayinka Adelusi, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned hearing on the case till 25 January, 2022.
