Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi has donated the sum of Five Million Naira to the victims of recent fire disasters that occured at Eleyele and Moniya markets, both in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The gesture by Sanusi, Chairman/CEO of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, was described as yet another demonstrated awesome empathy, a virtue he is known for.
The Eleyele Market was gutted by fire some weeks ago where goods worth millions of naira were lost in the inferno which started at midnight, while the fire disaster at the Moniya Market occurred few days ago.
The gesture by Sanusi was announced on Wednesday by Iyaloja-General, Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje, during a sympathy visit to the victims of the inferno at the Moniya Market.
Addressing the victims and other stakeholders in the area, Alhaja Saratu said the magnitude of the inferno would impact negatively on the economic lives of the affected persons.
“We are so much worried and concerned about the unfortunate incident. This is the reason why we are personally here to see for ourselves for further action.
“Three Million Naira goes to the victims of the first market at Eleyele, while Two Million Naira goes to the affected traders at Moniya Market where we are presently,” she said.
Speaking further, the Iyaloja-General, charged the market leaders and their executives to be transparent and accountable in the distribution of the funds to the victims.
She expressed her sadness over the unfortunate loss, but advised the marketers not to be demoralised, adding that their losses will be recovered and restored by God Almighty, sooner than later.
Alhaja Saratu Aduke appreciated the deep love of Chief Dotun Sanusi, the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland, for Oyo market traders over a period of time.
She described him as a public spirited philanthropist whose commitment to uplifting the masses out of poverty has remained his passion, as proven several times.
Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were also on ground to render assistance at the venue.
The traders, in their multitude, expressed their appreciation to Chief Dotun Sanusi who has remained unalloyed in his commitment to putting smiles on the faces of people generally.
